Meet your new Bytown Voices President - Catherine Smith
Catherine Smith is the newly elected President of the 100-member Bytown Voices Community Choir of Ottawa. She has been an alto with the choir for the last 10 years including serving two years as vice-president. As President she says she hopes to bring a two-fold focus to the job: helping the choir to look outward as it strives to connect with the audiences, and inward, supporting members to help each other as they seek together to improve their musical abilities. Her great delight in singing with Bytown Voices has been the experience of learning a new piece(s) each season and working with her choir colleagues to bring that polished piece to a concert audience.
Catherine also sings in her church choir and in the choir of the Canadian Federation of University Women-Ottawa. She is a member of the Canadian Association of the Club of Rome which focuses on sustainability and the health of the planet. She was an avid French horn player for many years and has a professional academic background as a paleoanthropologist.
