As a
community choir, our success depends on our professional music team as well as
many volunteers who serve in numerous different capacities. Just like all our
voices come together to make a beautiful sound, everyone's help makes the magic
happen.
Who are
these volunteers, what do they do, and how can you get involved?
(1)
Executive Committee
This is the
official leadership team that is responsible for running the choir. It is made
up of roughly a dozen choir members who are elected by the full choir
membership. They meet about 8 times a year. All elected Executive members have
a vote, although they strive to reach consensus on all decisions. Meeting
decisions and ongoing management concerns are documented through the taking of
minutes.
Our
Executive Committee is made up of the following roles: President, Past
President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Music Librarian, Membership
Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator, two
Member-at-Large positions, and the Artistic Director (our choir director, Joan
Fearnley). Note that the Artistic Director is employed by the choir; she is the
only non-elected and non-voting member of the committee (ex-officio). The Executive is also supported by our volunteer Webmaster who regularly consults with the committee
Who can
be a member of the Executive? All members of the choir are eligible to serve on the
Executive Committee. "Member-at-Large" positions are typically the
smoothest way to join as their role is to support decision making and take on
tasks as they arise.
Are
there vacancies? Yes! Please see the "For Members" page for more
details. There are no requirements to join, and you will receive
plenty of support. You should simply be willing to learn the role, seek
support, and get the job done! Not that our Executive members
are accountablefor making sure essential work
gets done, but they cannot do all the work; they need
your help!

Rehearsal and Concert Roles
The smooth
running of rehearsals and concerts relies on the help and leadership of a variety
of people performing many different tasks. The time commitment and level of
responsibility varies. Here are a few examples: Section Contacts (your first
point of contact, one each for Sopranos, Altos, and Tenor/Basses); Concert
management; Rehearsal space set-up and lock-up; Choir archive management; Riser
crew (lead and team); Ticket distribution; Poster artwork and Programs.
(3) Task
Volunteers (something for everyone!)
In
addition to the roles above, there are countless tasks that need doing, both
large and small. For example, our Music Librarian relies on a group of
volunteers to sort and distribute your music at the start and end of the
season. We encourage many of you to seek out sponsors to put ads in our
programs (this keeps our costs manageable). Your Executive Committee and those
leading our teams are so grateful when you help with tasks that arise or run an
errand. Carpooling also makes all the difference.
